ღირსი თეოფანე აღმსარებელი, კანონმთქმელი, ნიკეის ეპისკოპოსი არაბეთში დაიბადა. იგი ღირსი თეოდორე გამომეტყველის (ხს. 27 დეკემბერს) უმცროსი ძმა იყო. ძმებმა ბრწყინვალე განათლება მიიღეს, განსაკუთრებით ფილოსოფიით იყვნენ დაინტერესებულნი. ღვთის შეცნობის წყურვილმა ისინი წმიდა საბას ლავრაში მიიყვანა. აქ ღირსი თეოფანე ბერად აღიკვეცა, რამდენიმე წლის შემდეგ კი მღვდელ-მონაზვნად აკურთხეს.
