ღირსი კოზმა ზოგრაფელი ბულგარეთიდან იყო. სიჭაბუკეში მან თავი აარიდა ქორწინებას და მშობლებისგან ფარულად მიაშურა ათონის მთას. ნეტარი ათონის ზოგრაფის სავანეში მორჩილად მიიღეს. დიდმა ხანმა განვლო, სანამ იგი ბერად აღიკვეცებოდა, რის შემდეგაც ეკლესიარქად დაადგინეს. ხარების დღესასწაულზე ვათოპედის მონასტერში ღვთისმშობელმა ინება, ხილულად გაეცხადებინა კოზმასთვის, თუ როგორ ზრუნავდა თავის წილხვედრ მიწაზე. წინამძღვრის კურთხევით კოზმა უდაბნოში გავიდა და ერთ გამოქვაბულში დაეყუდა. სიკვდილის წინ წმიდა კოზმა ქრისტეს წმიდა სისხლსა და ხორცს ეზიარა, მადლობა შესწირა ღმერთს და მშვიდად მიიძინა. უფალმა სასწაულებრივ განადიდა თავისი რჩეული. მისი დაკრძალვის დღეს გამოქვაბულთან თავი მოიყარა უამრავმა მხეცმა და ფრინველმა, რომლებიც თითქოს გრძნობდნენ წმიდა მთის დანაკლისს, ტყიდან ისმოდა ცხოველთა და ფრინველთა მგლოვიარე ხმები. ეს მოხდა 1323 წელს.
