ღირსი გერმანე სოლოვკელი განმარტოებით ცხოვრობდა მდინარე ვიგის სანაპიროზე. დაახლოებით 1429 წელს აქ მას შეხვდა წმიდა საბატი (ხს. 27 სექტემბერს), ვალაამის სავანის ბერი, რომელიც განკრძალულ ადგილს ეძებდა სამოღვაწეოდ. გერმანემ მას სოლოვკის უდაბური კუნძულის შესახებ მოუთხრო, რის შემდეგაც წმიდა მამებმა ერთად გადალახეს ზღვა და სოლოვკიზე დამკვიდრდნენ. ნეტარი საბატის (+1435) მიცვალების შემდეგ ღირსმა გერმანემ სხვა მეუდაბნოესთან, ღირს ზოსიმესთან (ხს. 17 აპრილს) ერთად განაგრძო კუნძულზე მოსაგრეობა.
