წმიდა მოწამე თევდორე მღვდელი (კველთელი) XVII საუკუნის დასაწყისში მოღვაწეობდა. ეს ის პერიოდი იყო, როდესაც ირანი და ოსმალეთი ერთმანეთს სამკვდრო-სასიცოცხლოდ იყვნენ გადაკიდებულნი ქალაქ ბაღდადის გამო. 1609 წლის დასაწყისში ოსმალეთმა იძალა სპარსეთზე, წაართვა ბაღდადი, შემდგომ მიიტაცა სამცხე-საათაბაგო და იმავე წლის ივნისში ახალციხიდან შემოესია საქართველოს.
