წმიდა მოწამე ელეფთერი იმპერატორ მაქსიმიანე ჰერკულესის (284-305; 307-311) კარზე დაახლოებული დიდგვაროვანი და მდიდარი კარისკაცი იყო. ქრისტიანობაზე მოქცევის შემდეგ იგი განერიდა სასახლეს და ცდილობდა, ლოცვითა და კეთილი საქმეებით სათნოჰყოფოდა უფალს. ბოლოს ერთმა მსახურმა იმპერატორთან დაასმინა ნეტარი ელეფთერი. უსჯულო თვითმპყრობელი ამაოდ ეცადა, ჭეშმარიტი სარწმუნოებიდან გადაედრიკა წმიდანი, რის შემდეგაც მისთვის თავის მოკვეთა ბრძანა. ძაღლების საგლეჯად და ფრინველების საკორტნად მიგდებული მისი ცხედარი ერთმა კეთილმსახურმა ქრისტიანმა პატივით მიაბარა მიწას (მოწამის ხსენებას ეკლესია 4 აგვისტოსაც აღნიშნავს).
