ღირსი ნიკოლოზ აღმსარებელი, სტუდიელი იღუმენი IX საუკუნეში ცხოვრობდა. იგი დაიბადა კუნძულ კრეტაზე მდებარე სოფელ კედონიაში, ქრისტიანთა ოჯახში. 10 წლის იყო, როცა მშობლებმა კონსტანტინეპოლში გააგზავნეს, ბიძასთან – სტუდიტის მონასტრის ბერ ნეტარ თეოფანესთან. სავანის წინამძღვარმა, ღირსმა თეოდორემ ყრმა მონასტრის სასწავლებელში ჩარიცხა. სასწავლებლის დამთავრების შემდეგ, 16 წლის ასაკში, წმიდანი ბერად აღიკვეცა, რამდენიმე წლის შემდეგ კი მღვდლადაც დაასხეს ხელი.
