ღირსი კოზმა განდეგილი VI საუკუნეში ცხოვრობდა პალესტინაში, ფარანის უდაბნოში. მონათხრობს წმიდა კოზმას შესახებ ვხვდებით იოანე მოსხის „ლიმონარში“. ნეტარი მამა მკაცრი მმარხველი, მართლმადიდებლური სარწმუნოებისა და საეკლესიო დოგმატების მტკიცე დამცველი იყო, ღრმად ერკვეოდა წმიდა წერილში და ეკლესიის მამათა ნაშრომებში. კოზმას განსაკუთრებული მოწიწების გრძნობა გააჩნდა ათანასე დიდის ნაწერებისადმი და ამბობდა: „თუ წმიდა ათანასეს სიტყვას გადაეყრები და ეტრატი არ გექნება, საკუთარ სამოსელზე ჩაწერე იგი“.
