ღირსი რაბულა სირიის ქალაქ სამოსატში დაიბადა და კარგი განათლება მიიღო. ის ახალგაზრდობაში აღიკვეცა ბერად და წმიდა წინასწარმეტყველის ელიას (ხს. 20 ივლისს) და იოანე ნათლისმცემლის (ხს. 7 იანვარს) მსგავსად მთებსა და უდაბნოებში მოსაგრეობდა. შემდგომში წმიდანი ფილიკიაში გადავიდა, სადაც სახელი გაითქვა მადლმოსილი მოღვაწეობით. იმპერატორმა ზენონმა ღირს რაბულას ფული გამოუყო მონასტრის მოსაწყობად.
