ღირსი ფილოთეოზ ათონელი ელატიაში დაიბადა. თურქების შიშით მისი მშობლები მაკედონიაში, ქრისოპოლში გადასახლდნენ. მალე წმიდანის მამა გარდაიცვალა. ყრმა ფილოთეოზი ძმასთან ერთად თურქებმა შეიპყრეს და საპყრობილეში ჩააგდეს, საიდანაც თავად ღვთისმშობელმა გამოიხსნა სასწაულებრივად. ყოვლადწმიდა ქალწული ბავშვებს დედის სახით გამოეცხადა და ქალაქ ნეაპოლის (მცირე აზია) ღვთისმშობლის მიძინების სახელობის მონასტერში მიიყვანა. აქ ძმები ბერად აღიკვეცნენ.
