წმიდა მოციქული ფილიპე, მაცხოვრის სამოცდაათ უახლოეს მოწაფეთაგანი, პალესტინის კესარიაში დაიბადა. სულიწმიდის გარდამოსვლის შემდეგ თორმეტმა მოციქულმა წმიდანი იერუსალიმის ეკლესიის დიაკვნად დაადგინა. შვიდ პირველდიაკონს შორის უხუცესი იყო მთავარდიაკონი სტეფანე. როცა მართლმორწმუნეთა დევნა დაიწყო და იუდეველებმა პირველმოწამე სტეფანე ქვებით ჩაქოლეს, ფილიპემ დატოვა იერუსალიმი. იგი სამარიაში გადასახლდა და აქ ავრცელებდა ქრისტეს სწავლებას. მისი ქადაგებით მოექცა გრძნეული სიმონი, რომელმაც „ნათელ-იღო და იყო დადგრომილ ფილიპეს თანა“ (საქმე; 8,13).
