ღირსი თეოფანე სირიის ქალაქ ღაზაში მოღვაწეობდა. წმიდანი კეთილი და გულმოწყალე იყო, მთელი ქონება მან მოყვასის მსახურებას შეალია, თვითონ კი სრულიად გაღატაკდა. ნეტარს ჯანის სიმრთელეც წაერთვა და სენმა გატანჯა: სხეული უშუპდებოდა, ულპებოდა და ყარდა. იგი დიდსულოვნად ითმენდა ტკივილს და ყველაფრისთვის მხურვალედ მადლობდა უფალს. როცა იგი კვდებოდა, საშინელი ქარიშხალი ამოვარდა. წმიდანის მეუღლე წუხდა იმის გამო, რომ საკადრისად ვერ დაკრძალავდა ქმარს, თეოფანემ კი დაამშვიდა იგი: „ნუ ტირი! დღემდე მცდიდა უფალი, მაგრამ შეწყნარების ჟამიც დადგება და ჩემი მიცვალებისას, ღვთის ნებით, ქარიშხალი ჩაცხრება!“ ასეც მოხდა: როგორც კი თეოფანე მიიცვალა, ქარი ჩადგა და ირგვლივ მყუდროებამ დაისადგურა. წმიდანის სიკვდილის შემდეგ მისი ცხედარი განიწმიდა წყლულებისა და ჩირქისგან და კეთილსურნელოვანი მაკურნებელი მირონიც გადმოსდინდა.
