წმიდა მოწამე აღათოკლიას ცხოვრებისა და მოღვაწეობის წლები უცნობია, ვიცით მხოლოდ, რომ ის ერთი წარმართი და ქრისტესმოძულე ქალბატონის მხევალი იყო. ამ უკანასკნელს ქრისტეს აღსარებისთვის საშინლად სძულდა აღათოკლია და რვა წლის მანძილზე სასტიკად ტანჯავდა მას. ერთხელ გააფთრებულმა ქალმა ცემით ხერხემალი დაუზიანა მხევალს, შემდეგ ენის წვერიც მოაჭრა, მაგრამ ვერაფრით შეძლო, მოედრიკა წმიდანი და წარმართულ მსხვერპლშეწირვაზე დაეყოლიებინა. უღმრთო ქალბატონმა საპყრობილეში ჩააგდო იგი. აღათოკლიასთან ყოველდღე ჩიტებს მიჰქონდათ საზრდელი. ბოლოს ბოროტებისგან გონდაკარგული უსჯულო საპყრობილეში შევიდა და აღათოკლია სიცოცხლეს გამოასალმა.
