წმიდა მოციქული ანანია, ქალაქ დამასკოს ეპისკოპოსი, მაცხოვრის სამოცდაათ უახლოეს მოწაფეთაგანი იყო. ღვთის ბრძანებით, სწორედ მან მონათლა ქრისტიანთა მდევნელი სავლე, მომავალი პავლე მოციქული (საქმე, 9, 10-19). განსაცდელების მიუხედავად, ანანია გაბედულად და აშკარად ქადაგებდა ქრისტიანობას იუდეველებსა და წარმართებს შორის. დამასკოდან იგი ელეფთეროპოლში გადავიდა სახარების სწავლებით და იქ მრავალი სნეული განკურნა. ქალაქის თავი, ლუკიანე შეეცადა, წმიდანი კერპების-თვის მსხვერპლის შეწირვაზე დაეყოლიებინა, მაგრამ ვერაფერს გახდა. მაშინ ჯალათებმა მისი ბრძანებით სასტიკად აწამეს ქრისტეს მხნე აღმსარებელი. ქალაქგარეთ გაიყვანეს და ქვებით ჩაქოლეს. ანანიამ თავისი მკვლელებისათვის ლოცვაში შეჰვედრა სული უფალს (I ს.). მოგვიანებით მისი წმიდა ნაწილები კონსტანტინოპოლში გადააბრძანეს.
