წმიდა გენადი, კონსტანტინოპოლელი პატრიარქი კონსტანტინოპოლის ეკლესიის საჭეთმპყრობლის ტახტზე აღსაყდრდა 458 წელს, წმიდა კეთილმსახური მეფის, ლეონ დიდის (457-474) მეფობაში. ცნობებს მისი ცხოვრების შესახებ ვხვდებით წიგნში „ლიმონარი“, სადაც ჩართულია სალამის (ალექსანდრიის მახლობლად) სავანის ბერების, ღირსი მამების, სოფრონისა და იოანეს მონათხრობები. ის ბერები პატრიარქ გენადის დროს კონსტანტინოპოლის ეკლესიის ღვთისმსახურები იყვნენ. მღვდელმთავარი გენადი გამოირჩეოდა სიმდაბლით, მოთმინებით, სიწმიდითა და თავშეკავებით.
