წმიდა მოციქული თადეოზი ტომით ებრაელი იყო, იგი სირიის ქალაქ ედესაში დაიბადა. იერუსალიმში დღესასწაულზე ჩასულმა მოისმინა იოანე ნათლისმცემლის ქადაგება, მისი ხელით მიიღო სინანულის ნათლობა მდინარე იორდანეში და პალესტინაში დარჩა. შემდეგ ნეტარმა მაცხოვარი იხილა და მას დაემოწაფა. უფალმა იგი იმ სამოცდაათს შორის გამოარჩია, რომლებიც „წარავლინნა... ორ-ორი წინაშე მისსა ყოველსა ქალაქებსა და დაბნებსა, ვიდრეცა ეგულებოდა მას მისლვად“ (ლკ. 10,1). იესო ქრისტეს ზეცად ამაღლების შემდეგ თადეოზი ქადაგებდა სირიასა და მესოპოტამიაში. ჩავიდა ედესაშიც და ქრისტიანობაზე მოაქცია მთავარი ავგაროზი, ხალხი და ქურუმები.
