ღირს სვიმეონს (+დაახლ.390) ძველს უწოდებენ სვიმეონ მესვეტისაგან (ხს. 1 სექტემბერს) განსასხვავებლად. იგი ბავშვობაში გავიდა სირიის უდაბნოში, ერთ გამოქვაბულს შეაფარა თავი და აქ ატარებდა დღეებს განუწყვეტელი ლოცვითა და ღვთისგანგებულებაზე ფიქრით: წმიდა მამა მხოლოდ გამოქვაბულის ირგვლივ ამოზრდილი ბალახებით იკვებებოდა. როცა მარტომყოფის მოღვაწეობის ამბავი გახმაურდა, მასთან სულიერი დამოძღვრის მსურველებმა იწყეს სიარული. განმარტოების მაძიებელმა მამამ რამდენჯერმე გამოიცვალა დაყუდების ადგილი, ბოლოს, ღვთის მინიშნებით, ამანის ქედის ერთ-ერთ მთაზე დაემკვიდრა,აქ ორი სავანე ააგო და კეთილად განაგებდა მის მკვიდრთა ცხოვრებას.
