მოციქული და მღვდელმოწამე სვიმეონი, ხორციელი ძმა უფლისა (+107) იყო კლეოპას, წმიდა იოსებ დამწინდველის უმცროსი ძმის ძე. მან იხილა უფლის სასწაულები, ირწმუნა მისი და გახდა 70 მოციქულთაგანი. წმიდა სვიმეონი ქადაგებდა ქრისტეს სწავლებას და ამხელდა კერპთაყვანისმცემლობას. წმიდა იაკობ მოციქულის მოკვდინების (+63; ხს. 23 ოქტომბერს) შემდეგ ქრისტიანებმა იგი იერუსალიმის ეპისკოპოსად აირჩიეს. იმპერატორ ტრაიანეს მეფობის ჟამს (98-117) რომაელ მმართველს ატიკას უთხრეს, რომ წმიდა სვიმეონი დავით მეფის ტომიდან იყო (რომაელები ანადგურებდნენ დავით მეფის შთამომავლებს) და ქრისტეს სარწმუნოებას აღიარებდა. წარმართებმა შეიპყრეს 100 წელს მიტანებული წმიდა ეპისკოპოსი და ხანგრძლივი წამების შემდეგ ჯვარს აცვეს.
