წმიდა მოწამე იოანე ყაზანელი ნიჟნი ნოვგოროდიდან იყო. იგი თათრების ერთ-ერთი თავდასხმის დროს ტყვედ ჩავარდა და ყაზანში მცხოვრები ხანის ნათესავის, ალეი-შნურის ყმა გახდა. დღისით პატიოსნად ემსახურებოდა თავის ბატონს, ღამეებს კი ლოცვაში ათევდა, მოთმინებით იტანდა ყოველგვარ წყენას, დაცინვას და შეურაცხყოფას. ერთხელ ალეი-შნურმა გადაწყვიტა, მაჰმადიანობაზე მოექცია თავისი ტყვე. იოანემ კი განაცხადა, რომ უფლად მხოლოდ ჭეშმარიტ ღმერთს იესო ქრისტეს ცნობს. ღამით თათრებმა წმიდანი რუსულ სასაფლაოზე მიიყვანეს, მახვილით აწამეს, შეკრეს და თოვლში ჩააგდეს. გონსმოსულმა მოწამემ გაჭირვებით მიაღწია ყაზანში მცხოვრები რუსების საცხოვრებელს და ითხოვა, მღვდლისთვის ეხმოთ. ზიარების შემდეგ მან მთელი ღამე ლოცვაში გაატარა, გამთენიისას კი მიიცვალა (+24 იანვარი, 1529)
