წმიდა სტეფანე საბაწმინდელი იოანე დამასკელის (ხს. 4 დეკემბერს) ძმისწული, 725 წელს დაიბადა. ნეტარი ათი წლის იყო, როცა საბა განწმენდილის ლავრას მიაშურა. აქედან მოყოლებული სიცოცხლის ბოლომდე იგი ამ სავანეში მოსაგრეობდა. ღირს სტეფანეს უფლისგან სასწაულთქმედების და ნათელხილვის ნიჭი მიემადლა: სნეულებს კურნავდა, ეშმაკებს განასხამდა, ცხადად ჭვრეტდა რჩევა-დარიგების სათხოვნელად მისულთა აზრებს... წმიდანს წინასწარ ეუწყა აღსასრულის მოახლოება და 794 წელს მშვიდობით შეჰვედრა სული უფალს. ღირსი მამის ცხოვრება მისმა მოწაფემ, ლეონტიმ აღწერა (იხ. 28 ოქტომბრის საკითხავი).
