ღირსმოწამე ილია არდუნისი მორეაში დაიბადა. იგი კეთილგონიერებითა და სიკეთით გამოირჩეოდა და სოფლის მცხოვრებლებს ძალიან უყვარდათ. ერთხელ ბოროტის მიერ ცდუნებულმა ილიამ უარყო ქრისტიანობა, მაგრამ მალევე შეინანა, ათონის მთას მიაშურა და ბერად შედგა. მან აქ რვა წელი დაჰყო მკაცრ ღვაწლში, მაგრამ სინდისის ქენჯნა ვერ დაიცხრო. წმიდანს აღეძრა სურვილი, სისხლით ჩამოებანა ცოდვით შესვრილი სული. მოძღვრის კურთხევით, სამშობლოში წავიდა და თურქების წინაშე თავი ქრისტიანად გამოაცხადა. უსჯულოებმა სასტიკად სცემეს იგი და მსაჯულს გადასცეს, მსაჯულმა კი მისი დაწვა ბრძანა. უფალმა განადიდა თავისი რჩეული - ცეცხლში არა თუ მისი სხეული, ტანსაცმელი და თმაც კი უვნებელი დარჩა. ქრისტიანებმა პატივით დაფლეს მოწამის ცხედარი.
