ღირსი მართა, საკვირველ მთაზე მოღვაწე წმიდა სვიმეონ მესვეტის (ხს. 24 მაისს) დედა, დაიბადა ანტიოქიაში, VI საუკუნეში. იგი სიყმაწვილიდანვე მონაზვნური ცხოვრებისკენ ისწრაფოდა, მაგრამ მშობლებმა გათხოვებაზე დაითანხმეს. წმიდანის მეუღლე, იოანე მალე გარდაიცვალა და დაქვრივებულმა მართამ მთელი ძალები ერთადერთი ძის აღზრდას შეალია. იგი შვილს ღვთისმოშიშებისა და კეთილმსახურების მაგალითს აძლევდა: ხშირად დადიოდა ტაძრებში, ყურადღებით, კრძალვით ისმენდა საეკლესიო მსახურებას, ხშირად ეზიარებოდა წმიდა საიდუმლოს; ყოველ ღამით ლოცვად დგებოდა და გულმხურვალედ, ცრემლებით ევედრებოდა უფალს. მართა განსაკუთრებულ პატივს მიაგებდა იოანე ნათლისმცემელს, რომელიც მისი ზეციური მფარველი იყო და ხშირად ეცხადებოდა სასწაულებრივ ხილვებში. ღირსი დედა საოცარი გულმოწყალებითაც გამოირჩეოდა: აპურებდა და მოსავდა გლახაკებს.
