ნეტარი იოანე სალოსი დაიბადა სტარი უსტიუგის მახლობლად, სოფელ პუხოვოში. მისი მშობლები საბა და მარია კეთილმსახური ქრისტიანები იყვნენ. წმიდანი სიყმაწვილიდანვე მკაცრი მმარხველობით გამოირჩეოდა. ოთხშაბათს და პარასკევს არაფერს ჭამდა, სხვა დღეებში კი მხოლოდ პურსა და წყალს იღებდა. დაქვრივების შემდეგ იოანეს დედა მონაზვნად აღიკვეცა. უფალს მინდობილმა ყრმამ ჯერ მდუმარების ღვაწლი იტვირთა, შემდეგ კი სალოსობაც დაიწყო. ნეტარი იოანე პატარა ქოხში დაბინავდა, სადაც ფეხშიშველა დადიოდა ქალაქის ქუჩებში და მოთმინებით იტანდა გამვლელ-გამომვლელთა დაცინვასა და შეურაცხყოფას. წმიდანს დაუცხრომელი მოღვაწეობისთვის სასწაულთქმედების ნიჭი მიემადლა უფლისაგან. იგი მშვიდობით მიიცვალა 1494 წლის 29 მაისს.
