კეთილმსახური პეტრე, ბულგარეთის მეფე, ღვთისმოშიში ქრისტიანი იყო. ის ხშირად აკითხავდა ღირს იოანე რილელს (ხს. 18 აგვისტოს, 19 ოქტომბერს), სთხოვდა მას ლოცვას და სულიერ რჩევა-დარიგებას. კეთილმსახურმა მეფემ შესძლო, ბიზანტიასთან ზავი დაედო ბულგარეთისათვის ხელსაყრელი პირობებით და იმასაც მიაღწია, რომ კონსტანტინეპოლის პატრიარქს ეცნო ბულგარეთის ეკლესიის დამოუკიდებლობა და ბულგარეთში საპატრიარქო საყდარი დაემტკიცებინა. პეტრემ ხელი შეუწყო ქვეყნიდან ბოგომილების ერესის ამოძირკვას, გარდაიცვალა 967 წელს, 56 წლის ასაკში.
