მღვდელმოწამე დამასკინ ახალი ტირნოვის ეპარქიის სოფელ გაბროვოში დაიბადა. როცა მოწიფულობის ასაკს მიაღწია, მან დატოვა სამშობლო, ათონის მთას მიაშურა და ხილენდარის მონასტერში ბერად აღიკვეცა. შემდგომ წმიდანი ამ სავანის იღუმენი გახდა. ერთხელ ნეტარი მამა მონასტრის საქმეებზე ჩავიდა ბულგარეთში, სოფელ სისტოვში. ურჯულოებმა ქალის მოტაცებაში დასდეს ბრალი და მიუხედავად სოფლის მმართველის გამოსარჩლებისა, მოკვლა გადაწყვიტეს. სახრჩობელასთან მიყვანილ წმიდანს უღმრთოებმა მაჰმადის სჯულის მიღება შესთავაზეს, რაზეც მან მტკიცე უარი განაცხადა და მოწამის გვირგვინიც მიიღო. ეს მოხდა 1771 წლის 6 იანვარს. მტარვალებს მალე ეწიათ უფლის სასჯელი: დუნაის გადალახვის დროს ყველანი მდინარეში ჩაიხრჩვნენ.
