წმიდა მოწამე ნეოფიტე ნიკეიდან იყო. მშობლებმა იგი კეთილშობილ ქრისტიანად აღზარდეს. სიკეთის თავშეკავებული ცხოვრებისა და გამუდმებული ლოცვის გამო უფალმა წმიდანს სიყრმეშივე მიმადლა სასწაულქმედების ნიჭი. წმიდანის დედამ უფალს შესთხოვა, გაეცხადებინა მისთვის შვილის მომავალი. ღმერთმა თეთრი მტრედის სასწაულებრივი გამოჩენით აუწყა ქალს, რომ ნეოფიტე საცხოვნებელ გზას დაადგებოდა. იმავე მტრედმა გამოიყვანა ბავშვი მშობლიური სახლიდან და მთის ერთი გამოქვაბულისკენ – ლომის ბუნაგისკენ გაუძღვა. ამ გამოქვაბულში თხუთმეტი წელი იცხოვრა წმიდანმა და გარეთ მხოლოდ ერთხელ გამოვიდა – მშობლების დასაკრძალად და მათი ქონების გლახაკებისთვის დასარიგებლად.
