წმიდა სოფრონ იერუსალიმელი დაიბადა დამასკოში. სიყრმიდანვე კეთილმსახურებით და მეცნიერების სიყვარულით გამორჩეულ სოფრონს ბრძენს ეძახდნენ. მომავალი პატრიარქი უმაღლეს სიბრძნეს მონასტერში, მეუდაბნოეებთან საუბრებში ეძებდა. ის ჩავიდა იერუსალიმში, წმიდა თეოდოსის მონასტერში და დაუახლოვდა იოანე მოსხს. მალე სოფრონი იოანეს სულიერი შვილი და მორჩილი გახდა. ისინი ერთად დადიოდნენ მონასტერში, იწერდნენ მამათა ცხოვრებებს. ამ ჩანაწერებისაგან შედგა ცნობილი წიგნი „ლიმონარი“, რომელსაც მეშვიდე მსოფლიო კრებამ მაღალი შეფასება მისცა.
