წმიდა ევთალია ქალწული (+257) დედასთან და ძმასთან ერთად ცხოვრობდა სიცილიის ქალაქ ლეონტინში. ევთალიას წარმართი დედა დიდხანს ავადმყოფობდა. ერთხელ მას ძილში წმიდა მოწამენი ალფიოსი, ფილადელფოსი და კვიპრიანე (ხს.10 მაისს) გამოეცხადდნენ და აუწყეს, რომ განიკურნებოდა, თუ ქრისტეს ირწმუნებდა. მართლაც შვილთან ერთად ნათლისღების შემდეგ ავადმყოფი განიკურნა. ევთალიას ძმა, წარმართი სირმინი, დისა და დედის მოქცევამ სასტიკად განარისხა. დედა გაექცა შვილის რისხვას, წმიდა ევთალიამ მის წინაშე მხნედ აღიარა ქრისტე და მოწამეობრივად აღესრულა. ის ჯერ სასტიკად სცემეს, შემდეგ კი თავი მოჰკვეთეს.
