მღვდელმოწამე ალექსანდრე, იერუსალიმელი ეპისკოპოსი წმიდა კლიმენტი ალექსანდრიელის (+დაახლ. 217) მოწაფე იყო. III საუკუნის დასაწყისში იგი კაბადოკიის ფლაბიის ეპისკოპოსად აირჩიეს. სეპტიმიუს სევერუსის (193-211) ზეობისას მღვდელმთავარი საპყრობილეში ჩააგდეს, სადაც სამი წელი დაჰყო. განთავისუფლების შემდეგ უფლის რჩეული იერუსალიმში გაემგზავრა წმიდა ადგილების მოსალოცად, სადაც 212 წელს პატრიარქ ნარკისის თანამოსაყდრედ აირჩიეს. ეს ძველი ეკლესიის პრაქტიკაში მეტად იშვიათი შემთხვევა იყო. ჯერ პატრიარქის თანამოსაყდრე, შემდეგ კი პატრიარქად ხელდასხმული წმიდა ალექსანდრე 38 წელი მართავდა ეკლესიას და ფრიად დაშვრა სამწყსოს ქრისტიანული განათლებისათვის. უფლის რჩეულმა იერუსალიმში ქრისტიანი მწერლების თხზულებათა მდიდარი ბიბლიოთეკა შექმნა. იგი იმპერატორ დეკიუსის (249-251) მიერ ქრისტიანთა დევნის დროს გარდაიცვალა საპყრობილეში.
