წმიდა მოწამე გორდი III საუკუნის დასასრულს დაიბადა კაბადოკიის კესარიაში, ქრისტიანულ ოჯახში. როცა წამოიზარდა, იგი სამხედრო სამსახურში შევიდა და მალე ბრძოლაში გამოჩენილი სიმამაცისთვის ასისთავის წოდებაც დაიმსახურა. IV საუკუნეში, ქრისტიანთა დევნილობის განახლების დროს, წმიდანი განერიდა ამ სოფელს და უდაბნოში განმარტოვდა, რომ ღვთის სათნო ღვაწლით მომზადებულიყო მაცხოვრის უტკბესი სახელის აღსარებისათვის. 320 წელს გორდი აშკარად გამოვიდა ქალაქის პრეფექტის წინაშე ქრისტიანთა დასაცავად, რისთვისაც იგი შეიპყრეს და სასტიკი წამების შემდეგ თავი მოჰკვეთეს.
