წმიდა იოანე სქოლასტიკოსი, კონსტანტინეპოლელი პატრიარქი განათლებით იურისტი იყო. ის ჯერ ხუცესად აკურთხეს, შემდეგ კი პატრიარქის ტახტზე აღასაყდრეს. წმიდა მამა 565-577 წლებში მართავდა ეკლესიას. ჯერ კიდევ ხუცესობისას მან შეადგინა საეკლესიო კანონები 50 თავად, პატრიარქობის დროს კი ეკლესიასთან დაკავშირებულ სამოქალაქო განკარგულებებს ერთ კრებულში მოეყარა თავი. ამ კრებულზე დაყრდნობით შედგა ნომოკანონი, რომელსაც ეყრდნობა საეკლესიო სამართლისწარმოება. მღვდელმთავარი იოანე არის ავტორი საეკლესიო საგალობლებისა: „რომელი ქერუბიმთა“ და „სერობასა საიდუმლოსა შენისასა“.
