ღირსი ლუკა, ახალი მესვეტე მხედარი იყო იმპერატორ კონსტანტინე პორფიროგენეტის (912-959) დროს. ბულგარელებთან ომში (915 წ.) ღვთის განგებით, ლუკა ცოცხალი გადარჩა, რის შემდეგაც ბერად აღიკვეცა და ხუცესად აკურთხეს. სულიერი სრულყოფის მაძიებელმა მამამ ბორკილები აისხა და სვეტზე შედგა. სამი წლის შემდეგ, ღვთის შთაგონებით, იგი ოლიმპოს მთაზე გადავიდა, შემდეგ - კონსტანტინოპოლში, ბოლოს კი - ქალკედონში, სადაც კვლავ სვეტი მოიძია და მასზე ორმოცდახუთი წელი მოღვაწეობდა. უფალმა სასწაულთქმედების ნიჭი მიმადლა თავის რჩეულს, ბოლოს კი, დაახლოებით 980 წელს, მშვიდობით შეივედრა მისი სული.
