ღირსი პატაპი დაიბადა ქალაქ თებეში, კეთილმსახურ ქრისტიანთა ოჯახში. სრულწლოვანებას რომ მიაღწია, წმიდანმა ეგვიპტის უდაბნოს მიაშურა. მრავალი წლის შემდეგ წმიდა პატაპიმ ასკეტური ღვაწლით შორს გაითქვა სახელი და ურიცხვმა ხალხმა იწყო მასთან სიარული რჩევა-დარიგების სათხოვნელად. მაშინ ღირსი მამა, რომელიც მდუმარებას ეძიებდა, კონსტანტინოპოლში ჩავიდა და ვლაქერნის ტაძრის მახლობლად ქალაქის გალავანთან სენაკი მოიწყო. მალე პატაპის სახელი აქაც გახმიანდა. უფალმა თავის რჩეულს კურნებისა და ბოროტ სულთა განსხმის ნიჭი მიმადლა. ღირსი პატაპი ღრმა მოხუცებულობაში გარდაიცვალა.
