Sophrone naquit et grandit à Chypre. Du fait de sa grande érudition spirituelle et de ses nombreuses vertus, en particulier la compassion, il fut nommé archevêque à la suite de saint Damien. Ayant fidèlement servit l'Eglise et été agréable à Dieu, Sophrone mourrut en paix au 6ème siècle.
