Paul naquit à Pergame. Il mena une vie d'ascète sur une montagne appelée Latros, en Asie Mineure. Glorifié pour son ascétisme et ses nombreux miracles, il entra en paix dans le repos à un âge avancé, et prit demeure auprès du Seigneur en 950.
