Contemporain de saint Cassien (19 février), il fut un grand ascète Egyptien. Il vécut au 4ème siècle et mena une vie ascétique en divers endroits, fuyant les compliments des hommes. Il eut beaucoup de disciples, qui s'efforcèrent d'émuler les nobles exemples de leur maître.
