La început acest Ardalion a fost un actor-comedian. Ca sa-si distreze auditoriul, el mima chinurile mucenicilor care nu voiau sa se lepede de credinta lor crestina, reusind prin mascarile sale sa provoace hohotele de rîs ale publicului la adresa mucenicilor crestini. Dar cînd persecutiile au reînceput sub împaratul Maximian, atitudinea lui s-a schimbat radical, în fata multimilor care se înghesuiau la spectacolele sale, el a strigat ca este Crestin si ca teatrul s-au terminat. Pentru aceea Ardalion a fost osîndit la moarte prin torturare: el a fost legat de un cadru de vergi metalice înrosite în foc, împlinind astfel cel mai mare si mai autentic rol al vietii lui: acela de Sfînt Mucenic.
