Acesta^ a fost un mare nobil de la curtea împaratului persan Yezdegeherd. împaratul i-a confiscat rangul si toate proprietatile si averea, si 1-a trimis sa pazeasca vitele, deoarece mucenicul nu a voit sa se lepede de Hristos. împaratul a crezut ca mucenicul va tînji atît de mult dupa rangul si averile lui, încît se va întoarce degraba si se va închina idolilor. Dar Gormizdas a pazit vite întru îndelunga rabdare a inimii si s-a bucurat pazindu-si Credinta. Pentru aceasta împaratul 1-a luat si 1-a schinguit bestial, fara sa-i poata însa clinti inima, în cele din urma, la anul 418, Sfîntul Mucenic Gormizdas a fost omorît, imediat dupa martiriul Sfîntului Avdie Episcopul (pomenit la 31 martie).
