Acest Sfînt Nicolae a fost din cetatea Novgorodului, nascut din parinti foarte bogati. Dar el si-a parasit toata bogatia parinteasca si a preferat sa triasca pe strazi ca Nebun pentru Hristos, povatuindu-i pe oameni cu prefacuta lui nebunie. Prietenul lui întru aceeasi nevointa a fost Fericitul Teodor. Odata, pe cînd de fata s-au aflat si martori, ei amîndoi au alergat pe apa, de-a curmezisul unui rîu. Fericitul Nicolae s-a odihnit în Domnul la anul 1392.
