Acest mucenic a fost cetatean al Alexandriei. Adus înaintea stapînitorului pagîn, el si-a marturisit cu libertate credinta lui. El a fost torturat, biciuit si sfîsiat cu taisuri ascutite, dar nu s-a lepadat de Hristos. El a fost atunci aruncat în foc, si cu toate acestea a grait poporului care statea de fata din mijlocul flacarilor: "Fratilor, nu fiti sclavii trupului, ci mai degraba grijiti-va de suflet, care va este dat de Dumnezeu si îi este înrudit Lui si puterilor ceresti!" Asa si-a dat sufletul în mîinile Tatalui acest sfînt mucenic: povatuind poporul din mijlocul mortii lui.
