Datorita mintii lui minunate, rîvnei pentru credinta si elocintei sale, Sfîntul Polieuct a fost numit un al doilea Gura de Aur. în timpul cît Biserica a fost pastorita de Patriarhul Polieuct iar imperiul de împaratul Constantin Porfirogenetul, Printesa rusa Olga a calatorit la Constantinopol si a luat acolo Sfîntul Botez la anul 957 dupa Hristos. Patriarhul a botezat-o, iar împaratul i-a fost nas de botez. Sfîntul Polieuct i-a spus atunci în mod profetic: „Binecuvîntata esti tu între femeile ruse, caci ai iubit lumina si ai aruncat afara întunericul; fiii Rusiei te vor binecuvînta pe tine pîna la ultimele generatii." Monah simplu fiind, Polieuct a fost înaltat la rangul de Patriarh în anul 946 dupa Hristos, si a ramas pe tronul patriarhal pîna la moartea sa, care s-a întîmplat la anul 970 dupa Hristos.
