Dupa ce raul Apostat rau a pierit, loan s-a închinat pe sine vietii nevointelor monahicesti, traind întru curatie si sfintenie. El s-a savîrsit cu pace întru batrînete adînca. Dupa moarte, se arata acelora care aveau nevoie de ajutorul lui. Credinciosii se roaga Sfmtului loan Ostasul cînd au nevoie ca sa îi descopere pe raufacatori.
