Sfîntul Ermolae a fost preot în Nicomidia în timpul domniei împaratului Maximian. El a fost între cei doua mii de mucenici pe care împaratul i-a osîndit sa fie arsi de vii, împreuna cu biserica în care se aflau (vezi pomenirea la 28 decembrie). Dar prin Purtarea de Grija a lui Dumnezeu s-a întîmplat ca sfintitul Ermolae, împreuna cu alti doi preoti, Ermip (Hermippas) si Ermocrat (Hermocrates) au scapat de moartea aceasta. La vreme dupa aceea Sfîntul Sfintit Ermolae 1-a botezat pe cel care avea sa fie Sfîntul Mare Mucenic Pantelimon, Doctorul fara de Arginti, împreuna cu care a si fost judecat, torturat si omorît prin decapitare. Ermip si Ermocrat au luat si ei mucenicia împreuna cu dînsii, si cu totii au fost încununati cu cununile biruintei si slavei în împaratia lui Hristos. Ei au luat cu cinste mucenicia cam pe la anul 304.
