Policarp dobîndise «dragostea cea catre Dumnezeu si catre aproapele, bucuria unei constiinte fara pata, pacea biruintei contra tuturor patimilor, rabdarea desavîrsita în vremea ispitelor si nenorocirilor, bunatatea si supunerea fata de toti, bunavointa catre saraci si sarmani, neîndoita credinta în împlinirea poruncilor, credinciosia împlinirii fagaduintelor, blîndetea nemînierii, desavîrsita înfrînare, si toate celelalte.» Atît de bine a pastorit cuviosul Policarp Sfînta Mînastire a Pesterilor de la Kiev încît, dupa cinstita lui adormire, nu s-a aflat un urmator vrednic printre monahi care sa pastoreasca în locul lui. (Caci cei vrednici nu voiau sa primeasca aceasta demnitate din smerenie.) De aceea monahii s-au vazut obligati sa si-1 aleaga egumen pe Presbiterul Vasile, care era laic. Sfîntul Cuvios Policarp s-a odihnit în Domnul la anul 1182.
