Aceşti sfinţi erau din cetatea Vaneea; şi fiindcă aveau dragoste către mărturisitorii şi mucenicii lui Hristos, s-au dus la Cezareea, unde mulţi pătimeau pentru Hristos. Şi aflându-se acolo că erau creştini, au fost duşi la ighemonul Firmilian, şi mărturisind în faţa tuturor pe Hristos, îndată au fost supuşi la chinuri mari. Dar fiindcă stăteau tari în mărturisirea lui Hristos, ighemonul s-a mâniat foarte, şi i-a dat spre mâncare fiarelor. Mai întâi fericitul Adrian a fost aruncat înaintea unui leu şi, luptându-se cu el, şi cu harul lui Dumnezeu rămânând nevătămat, i s-a tăiat capul. Apoi sfântul Evul a fost aruncat şi el înaintea aceluiaşi leu. Dar fiindcă a biruit pe leu şi a rămas nevătămat, i s-a tăiat capul. Şi aşa au luat cununa muceniciei cea neveştejită.
