La început Zaheu era un vames pacatos. Cînd Domnul nostru 1-a vazut catarat în copac pe cînd trecea prin Ierihon si i-a spus ca va cina în casa lui, Zaheu a venit la pocainta si la schimbarea totala a vietii (Luca 19: 1-10). Mai tîrziu, Zaheu i-a urmat Sfîntului Apostol Petru, care 1-a uns episcop în Cezareea Palesinei, unde Zaheu a predicat cu rîvna Evanghelia Domnului si a adormit cu pace.
