Acest cuvios Anastasie a fost staretul Muntelui Sinai. La început el a fost multa vreme simplu monah aflat în ascultarea slavitului sfînt loan Scararul. Dupa moartea marelui loan, cuviosul Anastasie a preluat staretia Muntelui, în afara de faptul ca era un mare nevoitor, Anastasie mai era daruit si cu darul elocventei si scrierii de carti aghiografice si de învatatura practica. El a dus mari lupte împotriva ereticilor, a asa-numitilor akefaliti [„fara cap"], care lepadau hotarîrile Sfintilor Parinti de la Sinodul al Patrulea a toata lumea (de la Calcedon, din anul 451). Sfintul cuvios Anastasie a adormit cu pace la adînci batrîneti, în anul 685, stramutîndu-se la locasurile ceresti ale Domnului Dumnezeu, Caruia 1-a slujit cu cinste întreaga lui viata.
