Acesta a fost un tînar din cetatea Tirului, care a luat mucenicia din partea chinuitorului Urban, guvernatorul Tirului, cel care îl omorîse printre multi altii si pe mucenicul lui Hristos Amfian (cel pomenit la 2 aprilie). Sfîntul mucenic Ulfian a fost bagat într-un sac împreuna cu un cîine si un sarpe, apoi aruncat în mare, asa luîndu-si mucenicescul sfîrsit. Mucenicia si proslavirea lui s-au întîmplat la anul 306 dupa Hristos.
