Cuviosul Procopie s-a nascut în orasul Hotis din ceea ce astazi reprezinta Republica Ceha. El a fost hirotonit preot si apoi s-a retras într-un munte spre a trai dupa modelul sihastrilor rasariteni din vechime. Herzog Ulrich 1-a aflat din întîmplare pe sihastrul Procopie, si vazînd unde traieste si se nevoieste, 1-a ajutat sa întemeieze acolo o mînastire cu praznicul Sfîntului loan Botezatorul Domnului, pe malul rîului Sazava. Acest sfînt barbat a trecut la cele vesnice la anul 1053.
