Acest cuvios a fost un mare nevoitor egiptean, cunoscut multora. Pe cînd era în vîrsta de cincisprezece ani el s-a lepadat de lume si s-a retras în pustietatea unui munte, unde a vietuit timp de patruzeci de ani hranindu-se numai cu verdeturile ce se puteau gasi acolo. Dupa aceea, el a întemeiat o mînastire unde s-au adunat cinci sute de monahi. Sfîntul Cuvios Apolonie s-a mutat la Domnul cu pace, în anul 395 dupa Hristos.
