Cînd persanul rege Sapor a jefuit tinuturile Bizantului, al a luat cu sine una suta si douazeci de robi dintre crestini. Cum încercarile lui de a-i face pe acestia sa se lepede de credinta lor în Hristos si sa se închine focului au esuat, regele i-a aruncat în cuptoare de foc si i-a ars de vii. Printre cei o suta si douazeci de mucenici se aflau si noua fecioare afierosite Domnului. Acestia cu totii -au luat mucenicia cu cinste între anii 344 si 347, stramutîndu-se la locasurile cele ceresti din împaratia cea vesnica a Domnului Hristos.
